Andrews Lake

Andrews Lake, Felton, Delaware

Low 70s, sunset, very damp and fungus-y, as you can probably see above.  Poison ivy everywhere, but hopefully I managed to steer clear.  I still have residual poison ivy from my excursions around Bombay Hook 3 weeks ago.

The tiny white mushrooms in #5 are approximately the size of my pinkie fingernail.

Bennetts Pier 3/3

Bennetts Pier, Kent County, Delaware

Upper 50s, misty, still and calm, no particular tide, although closer to low tide than high tide.

Drove down through the marshes to watch the sun rise and check out the storm damage or lack thereof.  Other than a bizarre assortment of flotsam and jetsam, and a significant eroding of the artificial dune at the end of the road, there wasn’t much storm damage to speak of.  Ended up walking north to Sandy Point and Brockonbridge Gut, ’til I ran out of shoreline.

The crab in the first photo was miniscule, not much bigger than my thumbnail.  It occurs to me looking at the photos now that I should have put something else in the frame for scale.  The second photo is the high tide line, several high tides ago, much higher than the usual.  Probably the next high tide after the storm.  The 5th shot is the same dune from my last trip to Bennetts Pier, or at least what’s left of it after the nor’easter.

Found a few places where deer had come down to the shore, see photo of tracks.  No idea what was up with the helicopter – I stood and stared and wondered how someone so clearly befuddled had got ahold of such an expensive toy as he swooped around like a seagull, then when I got further down back toward the road, I realized he was spraying something in the marsh.  He’s in two photos in a row, very low to the marsh in the second.  And speaking of a bizarre assortment of flotsam and jetsam, see the watermelon wedge in the 5th photo – I don’t think those grow in the marsh.  The last photo is of the community of Bowers Beach from the other side of Brockonbridge Gut.
