Punkin Chunkin 2/2

Punkin Chunkin, Bridgeville, Delaware

I think the 2nd shot is the only one all day where I managed to catch the pumpkin as it was leaving the barrel. Then again, I photographed a few as they were firing, then went and got some yummy french fries from one of the vendors who was cutting them and frying them up as they were ordered.

There are a few annual events around Delaware that I mean to get out to every year and never quite make it. Punkin Chunkin is one of them, or at least it was until now. I don’t like crowds much, and that’s what all these festivals around the state are – crowded. I think the Apple Scrapple Festival in Bridgeville a few weeks ago draws in about 75,000, the Sea Witch Festival in Rehoboth gets even more, and I think I heard on the radio that Punkin Chunkin was expected to have at least 125,000. That’s a lot of parking hassle and jostling through crowds.

Good news, though – Punkin Chunkin actually starts Friday morning! That’s when I made it this year.
