Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Milton, Delaware

Once I came to the junction of the Boardwalk Loop and the Dike Trail, I turned onto the Dike Trail, since it had stopped raining. The side trip gave me an unobstructed view of the huge wood duck nesting boxes that were scattered throughout the area. I’ve seen plenty of the smaller boxes at various refuges and reserves and parks around the state, but I’ve never seen these bigger ones, which were clearly identified as wood duck nesting boxes by a sign nearby.

Didn’t take long to start raining again, and that’s when I turned back around and headed back out – it was nearly sunset anyway by that time.
