Bad Wheel Jonny and the Broke Spokes, Digital Street Studios, Dover, Delaware

So apparently there’s a place called Digital Street Studio, right up the road in Dover, where they do a show called A Night To Be Heard that broadcasts live on Original Works Radio. I got an invite to go see Bad Wheel Jonny and the Broke Spokes (featuring songwriter Jon Guessford on guitar and vocals, Melissa Lim on vocals and shakey egg, Craig Koska on tenor guitar, Dave Kotulas on lead accoustic guitar, John Kidd on harmonicas and jaw harp, Sandy Shalk on bass, and Rick Schuman on percussion) do a show there, and I had a night off, so off I went. Insert the usual grumbles about non photo-friendly lighting here, but the show was *amazing*. I expect you’ll probably be seeing more of them here, especially if I can catch up to them playing outdoors, where the lighting is better. They’re working on a CD right now, and I’ll probably post info about that here when it’s available, because I intend to have one, and if they sound anywhere near as awesome on a CD as they do live, you should probably have one too.

I’ve only posted a few photos here on the photoblog, but everything I didn’t delete outright is on Flickr. Unfortunately, it was a pretty tight space, and I didn’t want to be disruptive, so I got quite a few of some of them and barely any of others.

Mispillion Art League

Filed under: Landscape — Life On The Edges @ 2242

So what brings me back after all this time? I wanted to take this opportunity to give a little plug to an organization I recently joined, the Mispillion Art League. I’ve been vaguely thinking of bringing this site back for quite a while now, and a combination of life events, busy-ness, and general lack of motivation/inspiration kept getting in the way. This is something I love doing for fun, and it’s not that I stopped taking photos altogether (although I certainly slowed down), but I did definitely lose my posting mojo, and the joy I got from sharing my photos. And then… well… you know how habits go. I got out of the habit, and couldn’t quite get back into the habit.

Then one day, my husband, a fellow amateur artist, suggested we go join a local Art League. I was a little lukewarm about the idea, but I did some research online and checked out a couple of leagues online and in person. Mispillion Art League was love at first sight for us, and we joined on the spot. We dropped in one Saturday evening, about 45 minutes before they were due to close, and were greeted by that evening’s volunteer gallery host, Rosemary Connelly of Live Cheap and Make Art Studio. She was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and signed us up for a membership.

We went to our first event, their Winter Social, at Abbott’s Grill, which is one of my favorite restaurants anyway, so it wasn’t a tough sell. *Super* friendly people at every turn. Afterward, we went to one of their monthly free public events, a “Third Thursday” art presentation. A local guy portrayed Howard Pyle and talked about his life and art, and it was fantastic! The rest, as they say, is history. I’m now actively volunteering with them, which I find very fulfilling, and I will be submitting a few pieces to their next show. Which pieces? I don’t know, that’s one of the reasons I rarely exhibit. I can never choose! Feel free to tell me what your favorites are.

So stay tuned for more info, and I will let you know if/when I have any of my work on display. Feel free to “like” my page and the Mispillion Art League page on Facebook, or follow either of us on Twitter – @lifeontheedges and/or @MispillionArts. Check out some of the other artists in the area while you’re at it. Get inspired. I did, after all this time.

And thanks so much to those of you who have been my long-term fans and supporters. I guess you always knew I’d be back sometime. ;)

(full disclosure: I am one of 6 volunteer admins for the MAL FB page, and I also run their Twitter account – that has been a big part of my volunteer work for them so far)

Bennetts Pier, Milford, Delaware

I’ve been thinking of reviving my photoblog for a while now, but I’m overwhelmed by the idea of sorting through all the photos I’ve taken over the past few years. So I decided to just start from scratch this week, and leave the rest of them undisturbed in the archives. It only made sense to go to one of my favorite places in the whole wide world for the waking.
