Ted Harvey Wildlife Area, Dover, Delaware

This is a paddle I’ve been meaning to take for a while now – launched from the North Boat Ramp at Ted Harvey, followed the canal east to within a couple hundred yards of the Delaware Bay, then north to Kitts Hummock, then west again to the THWA Pond, around the edges of it, and then back to the boat ramp. It’s about 3.5 miles, total, and I had the whole place to myself. The air was full of frolicking monarchs and dragonflies nearly as long as my hand. Aside from the occasional disgruntled Great Blue Heron, the only noise I noticed for almost two hours was the “shhhhhhhhh” of the underwater vegetation on my hull and the dipping of my paddles. :)

Ted Harvey Wildlife Area to Pickering Beach, and back

I’ve been in the mood for beach hiking lately, in case you haven’t noticed. This is a lovely time of year for it along the Delaware Bay beaches in Kent County. It’s about 7 miles from the North Boat Ramp parking lot at Ted Harvey to Pickering Beach (along the beach) and back.

Ted Harvey Wildlife Area to Pickering Beach, and back again

I’ve been in the mood for beach hiking lately, in case you haven’t noticed. This is a lovely time of year for it along the Delaware Bay beaches in Kent County. It’s about 7 miles from the North Boat Ramp parking lot at Ted Harvey to Pickering Beach (along the beach) and back.

The shells in #3 and #4 came from the wrack along the beach in the foreground of #5.
