Everglades National Park, Homestead, Florida

We took a trip to south Florida to visit friends and get warm (still about 2-3 ft of snow on the ground when we left Delaware). Vinsmousseux and her boyfriend were our hosts and chauffeurs for five days.

The first excursion we took was to Everglades National Park, where they apparently have a vulture problem. There was a sign under the one in the first photo explaining that research has shown that keeping one on display like that deters others from roosting in the area (which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, they’re carrion eaters, after all) and that the one hanging there had been obtained at a local landfill. The rest of the vulture photos were from out on the trail, and the sign was back up at the trail head on the way out.

I took a little over 1200 photos on our trip, so more entries will be forthcoming as I sort through them all.

Dover, Delaware

I pulled into the Target entrance to go buy breakfast supplies for my Valentine, and there were birds EVERYWHERE – there was a whole row of trees that looked just like the one in the first photo. The trees with the most birds were bare, but there were others nearby that were full of berries.
