All day Saturday, we saw pile after pile of horse poop everywhere we wandered, but no horses (unless you count the ones out in the marsh so far away we only knew what they were because, well, what else would they be? My partner in crime for the weekend woke up before me on Sunday, went for a walk, and then when she came back, there were FOUR of them immediately outside my tent. We still barely saw any, but I did manage to get this one with my camera on the way out.

The deer is a Sika Deer, and he was only about knee high. The adults’ heads stand about waist high. They were everywhere, and very brazen. I’m sure I could’ve touched one if I’d been so inclined – as it was, I got within 5-6′ of several, and they were perfectly willing to come closer. It’s illegal to “feed, touch, or tease” any wildlife in Assateague, though, so I didn’t. Besides, eww. ;)

There were Monarch butterflies everywhere. :)
