If someone did this today, they’d end up in a state mental hospital.

More of the exhibits inside the museum. It sounded like many of these items were donated by Thumper, a local waterman who dredges the bay. We didn’t get a chance to talk to him, but I did (with his wife’s permission) take some photos of his house, and when I Googled later to make sure I had his nickname right, I found the transcript of an interview with him from back in 2002.

The museum sometimes holds events to help raise funds to maintain the building and pay their operating costs – if you have a chance, stop by and see them this weekend and buy a hot dog – they should be selling them during the parade festivities.

They also have an event that’s called Big Thursday (I never did figure out why) on Sunday, August 9th. From the flyer they gave me:

Watch the parade at 11:30 (or march with us)

Milford Community Dixieland Band

First state Harmonettes

Nanticoke Indians

Car Show

Rock Wall Climbing

Food (including oysters and crabs)

Craftsmen, Games, Exhibits at the State Park, North Bowers, DE

11:30-4:30

Mary Anne Vavala and Judy Martin at the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum, and some of the exhibits inside. It recently reopened, and I could tell it was really a labor of love for these ladies and the community. The sign was generously donated by Naamans Creek Carved Sign Co. of Avondale, PA.
