Woodside Farm Creamery, Hockessin, Delaware
I spotted a flyer last weekend listing National Ice Cream Day festivities at Woodside Farm Creamery. It was unbelievably easy to recruit a few friends to go investigate with me, so off we went to see the cows and eat some ice cream. The flavors between the three of us were Bacon, Cherry Vanilla, and Pear Sorbet. When I ordered the Bacon, everyone in the room turned to look at me, but it wasn’t mine, I swear! I had the Pear Sorbet, and it was pure heaven.
After the ice cream, we walked around for a while looking at the various displays and tours. We stopped to vote in the ice cream poll. By that time there were 4 of us, and between Grape, King Kong, and Cinnamon Bun, we were evenly split between the latter two. I chose King Kong, which was a chocolate base with banana and Oreos. We saw the milking parlor and the room where the magic happens – they create all their ice cream in a room smaller than my master bedroom at home.
What we REALLY went to see, of course, was the cows – there was a small pasture with Jersey calves in it up near the milking parlor, and we hung out there for a while. And then on the way out, we met the Delaware Dairy Princess, who gave us “Got Milk?” bracelets and cow erasers.
