Fresh Connection, Milton, Delaware

This is one of my regular stops, because (in my humble opinion) they have the best watermelons in all of Delaware, and lots of other locally grown produce, along with other items like local honey and various pickled and preserved things in jars. They’ve also got all the fixins for a tiki themed yard. I wouldn’t be caught dead with one, but they’re neat to look at. ;)

Between Fresh Connection and Historic Lewes Farmers Market, we had ourselves a farm(ers market) to table feast at my house when we got home.

Historic Lewes Farmers Market, Lewes, Delaware

This time I arrived about an hour before the market closed, and wow, what a difference! I’m not sure how much of it was the hour, and how much was the heat (99-100 degrees with a heat index closer to 110), but there wasn’t nearly as much selection in produce, and at least one of the vendors I remembered from the week before that I wanted to check out this time wasn’t there at all. I’m thinking it was more to do with the hour, because when we were there, some places specifically mentioned being sold out of things, or nearly sold out of things.

This time, I took some friends with me. You can see photos from one of them here.

Lavender Fields, Milton, Delaware

There are places in Delaware that I’ve been meaning to go to for years, and just never quite get around to it. Lavender Fields is one of those places, and I finally went this morning on the way home from a morning spent sleeping on the beach. As it turns out, I missed the first harvesting, so the actual lavender wasn’t much to look at. The woman I spoke to in the store said there would be a second cutting sometime in August, smaller than the first, so I think I may try to go back in a few weeks. Meanwhile, the gardens and grounds were still lovely.
