Historic Lewes Farmers Market, Lewes, Delaware
Photos from Magee Farm, Uncle Ernie’s Oysters, Paradise Peaches, Backyard Jams and Jellies, and Freeman Farm stands. I don’t have websites for any of them, so if you do, leave it in the comments, and I’ll add it to the entry.
People always tell me I should write more with my entries, say more about what the photos are of and why I took them. It’s easier for me to just post the photos, but as I’m revitalizing the photoblog with new entries, I’m going to try to turn over a new leaf and say more. Tell me what you want to know in the comments, and as always, I’ll answer there. And I’ll try to use that feedback to guide me in my initial postings.
So this is what happened. Last week, @CapeGazette, who I follow on Twitter, tweeted a link to a story about a local creamery called Nice Farms Creamery who sells their minimally “tampered with” dairy products at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market. I’d been meaning to check that market out for a while now, and the summer’s flying by, so I decided to go down on Saturday morning since I was off work earlier than usual and had no plans for the rest of the day.
The creamery stand was there, and I got my milk and yogurt. And YUM. I took the yogurt to a friends’ house and split it with them, and one of them cleaned every last bit out of the container with his fingers. I didn’t take any photos at the stand, because it just wasn’t much to look at amidst all the glorious produce and flowers, but I talked to one of the guys running it and asked if the farm was open to the public. He seemed a little skeptical that there’d be anything of interest, but said to email him, so I guess I will.
Meantime, here are the rest of the photos I took at the Farmers Market. And those eggplants at the bottom of this entry? I bought two of them, and the gal from Freeman Farm selling them told me how to cook them. In all my life, I have never cooked an eggplant before, but the time has come.
